London

2002 at OXO Tower & Shoreditch Stables.

Double Designersblock. South of the river, The Bargehouse at the Oxo tower hosted Unit’s ekistikit, a hugely ambitious and successful partnership between Designer Jim Birdsell and Architect Keith Albarn. Korban Flaubert showed architectural furniture from Australia. Dan Pearlman delighted visitors with interactive concepts. From Tokyo Toshihiko Suzuki showed his super modern takes on the traditional Tatami mat. Lee McCormack showed the prototype Oculas now manufactured by Mclaren Formula One, how about that? And Ferrious won a contract to provide all the furniture for the Home Office. It was a show of bold ideas that nobody expected. Over in the East at Shoreditch stables Graphic Thought Facility launched the Me box. Her House Products showed a table with Bollocks sprayed on it and a bird box produced by prisoners on the Isle of Wight. Charlie Davidson made the first of many designersblock appearances. Sputnik came back to occupy an ethereal top floor and Swarovski and Georg Baldele made the ground floor into a crystal palace.
