London
2000 5.-8. oct at 3 different locations in the city.
St Pancras Chambers is the grade 1 Listed building which fronts St Pancras Station. It was built as the Midland Grand Hotel between 1868 and 1876 to designs by Sir George Gilbert Scott. DB 2000 took place over 2800 sqm of space on the ground and first floors. Known and loved by Londoners the Gothic splendour of the chambers has remained empty and unused for many years. The touching contrast between the energetic confidence of the buildings design and craftsmanship and its subsequent abandonment and decay created a rare setting in which designers could express their imagination. Never to be repeated the show provided UK launches for Sputnik from Japan, Norway says from Oslo and hosted what still remains the best showcase of designers from Denmark seen in the capital. Sputnik took it upon themselves to provide a German drinking band for the opening and we had a fashion show from Scheufler and Heiss on the grand staircase trod by the Spice Girls in the Wanabee video, all lit by Georg Baldele’s candles.
